Esta ruta forma parte de la ascensión al Kilimanjaro por la ruta Machame
Día 3: Shira Cave Camp - Junction Point / Lava Tower (4500m) - Barranco Camp (3950m) - 10km
Desde el campamento de la cueva de Shira continuamos un poco cuesta arriba y tenemos una hermosa vista de la montaña nevada. Llegamos a Junction Point , donde confluyen varias rutas de escalada. A lo lejos podemos ver escaladores en otras rutas. Continuamos nuestro ascenso hasta la Torre di Lava a 4520m , también llamada "Diente de Tiburón", donde nos aclimataremos por un rato.
La bajada desde Lava Tower es empinada y muy rocosa pero muy bonita. Continuamos por un hermoso sendero para finalmente descender más hacia el glaciar Arrow y el lecho de un arroyo. Hay arbustos aquí y allá.
Hay hermosos racimos de lobelia (bastones gigantes: como un cactus gigante con una gran flor en la parte superior) por los que pasamos.
