El RMS Queen Mary es un transatlántico británico actualmente retirado, que prestó servicio principalmente en la travesía del Atlántico entre 1936 y 1967 para la compañía naviera Cunard Line . Construido por los astilleros John Brown & Company en Clydebank, Escocia, fue diseñado para ser el primero de los dos transatlánticos que Cunard Line había previsto para el servicio expreso en la ruta Southampton - Cherburgo - Nueva York, en respuesta a los grandes transatlánticos europeos de la década de 1920 y principios de 1930. Fue el buque insignia de Cunard desde mayo de 1936 hasta octubre de 1946, cuando el RMS Queen Elizabeth[1] entró en servicio.
El Queen Mary realizó su viaje inaugural el 27 de mayo de 1936 y en agosto de aquel año se hizo con el galardón conocido como «Banda Azul», que premiaba la travesía más rápida entre ambos lados del Atlántico. Perdió dicho título en favor del barco francés SS Normandie en 1937, aunque logró recapturarlo en 1938, y lo mantuvo hasta 1952 cuando fue superado en velocidad por el nuevo transatlántico estadounidense SS United States.
