La tour Malakoff a été construite en 1854 et est une copie exacte des tours de château médiévales typiques. La tour a été curieusement nommée d’après une célèbre bataille qui a eu lieu le 7 septembre 1855 pendant la guerre de Crimée. Les Français et les Anglais ont ensuite combattu les Russes en Ukraine. La bataille de Malakhov a été remportée par les Alliés, leur donnant « carte blanche » pour prendre la ville portuaire de Sébastopol. Un baron local du gin fit ériger cette tourelle. Une fois, il a fait rejouer la bataille de Malakoff lors d’une garden-party – apparemment – mémorable. Depuis lors, la tour porte ce nom. Un tel bâtiment est appelé une feuille ou une folie. Et c’est certainement le faire-valoir le plus célèbre de la région.
