En 1525, l'Ancien Hôtel de Ville est érigé pour l'administration de la Seigneurie de Maldegem. Les tâches augmentent et en 1653, l'Hôtel de Ville reçoit le renfort de l'Ancien Hôtel de Ville. Au fil des siècles, les bâtiments ont des fonctions variées : hôtel de ville avec salle du conseil, auberge, café, mairie, académie des beaux-arts, bibliothèque, … La rencontre est toujours le fil rouge. Les deux bâtiments sont des monuments protégés.
