La forteresse Foppa Grande est un ouvrage d'artillerie suisse du côté sud du col du Gothard dans le canton du Tessin. Elle se trouve à 1540 m d'altitude à l'entrée de la Tremola sur l'ancienne route du Gothard au-dessus de Motto Bartola. L'ouvrage construit en 1940 a été déclassifié en 1997 et rénové en 2003 en tant qu'installation historique Foppa Grande.
En 1929, l'Italie a construit une route vers le col de San-Giacomo, qui se trouve à seulement 14 kilomètres de l'entrée sud du tunnel ferroviaire du Gothard. Les lourds canons de l'artillerie italienne se trouvaient ainsi à proximité menaçante de la forteresse centrale du Gothard. Un renforcement des fortifications obsolètes construites entre 1886 et 1894, à savoir le Forte Airolo, la forteresse Motto Bartola et le Fort Hospiz, était jugé d'une nécessité urgente.
