Le 6 août 1997, le Boeing 747 du vol Korean Air 801 entre Séoul en Corée du Sud et l'île de Guam, en Micronésie s'est écrasé lors de la procédure d'approche.
Le vol 801, assuré par la compagnie Korean Air sur un Boeing 747-300, a décollé de Séoul à 20 h 53 le 6 août 1997. L'équipage était composé de 2 pilotes, un ingénieur de vol, et 14 hôtesses et stewarts, ainsi que 237 passagers, en majorité sud-coréens.
