Le château de Verrès est l'un des principaux châteaux valdôtains. Il se dresse en amont du bourg de Verrès, à l'embouchure du Val d'Ayas.
À l'endroit où se trouve aujourd'hui le château existait déjà un manoir des seigneurs De Verretio au XIIIe siècle, mais Yblet de Challant le fit rebâtir complètement en 1390 en style gothique. Cette date est marquée au-dessus d'une porte au premier étage : « M.CCC.LXXXX. MAGNIFIC DNUS EBALL DNUS CHALLANDI MONTIOVETI, ETC. EDIFICARE FECIT HOC CASTRUM VIVENTIBUS EGREGIIS VIRIS FRANCISCO DE CHALLAND DNUS DE BOSSONENS ET CASTELLIONIS ET JOHE DE CHALLAND DNO DE COSSONA EI FILIIS ».
