Sur l'initiative du curé Verbunt, il a été décidé fin 1943 de construire cette chapelle pour rester à l'abri des désastres pendant la guerre et pour obtenir la paix. Elle tire son nom du fait que Marie à Fatima a dit que les gens devaient prier pour la paix. Tout le quartier de Kaarschot a réuni des fonds à cet effet. Comme il n'y avait pas de nouvelles pierres disponibles, les pierres de l'ancienne allée de l'église ont été utilisées. Le 14 mai 1944, cette chapelle a été consacrée par le curé Verbunt.
