L'appareil est un BAe 146-200 de la compagnie aérienne féroïenne Atlantic Airways immatriculé OY-CRG. Il avait été mis en service le 30 juin 1987 par la compagnie américaine PSA, avant d'être livré à Atlantic Airways quelques mois plus tard, le 1er mars 1988
