È l'unico in Fiandre, anno di costruzione 1862 - 1863, distrutto nel 1918 durante la ritirata dei tedeschi e rapidamente ripristinato per rendere di nuovo percorribile la trafficata linea ferroviaria Oudenaarde-Ronse-Leuze. La galleria ferroviaria ha servito durante la II Guerra Mondiale una notte come rifugio per il "treno corazzato" di Hitler. In una giornata invernale del 1966, un pezzo della Spichtenberg è scivolato fino oltre il letto ferroviario, proprio davanti all'ingresso della galleria, causando l'interruzione del traffico ferroviario Oudenaarde-Ronse per oltre un anno.
