La città conta oltre 5500 abitanti e si trova a circa 275 m di altitudine. La città di Limburgo è composta da due parti: in basso lungo il fiume Vesder si trova Dolhain, il centro industriale e commerciale con la sua stazione Dolhain-Gileppe situata sulla linea ferroviaria Liegi-Aquisgrana; sulla roccia in alto si trova l'ex fortezza Limburg.
