Secondo molte foto e guide turistiche, le Ardenne iniziano, tra l'altro, da Namur, mentre gli esperti parlano della Condroz. C'è quindi una certa confusione di nomi tra le Ardenne turistiche e le Ardenne geologiche. Secondo i geologi, le Ardenne si trovano su un sottosuolo che risale all'Ordoviciano e più antico (Siluriano, Ordoviciano e Cambriano). Pertanto, la Condroz, Fagne-Famenne e calcareo non rientrano in questa categoria. Una regola semplice per ricordare la differenza è: le Ardenne non contengono calcare, mentre la Condroz, Fagne-Famenne e calcareo sì.
