Il Roannay è un affluente dell'Amel. Nasce sull'altopiano di Hauts Pans vicino a Francorchamps. La valle assume rapidamente la forma di una valle densamente boscosa e scarsamente popolata . Poi la valle assume una sorta di aspetto pastorale e ci sono più prati intervallati da zone boschive. Splendidi panorami accarezzano gli occhi di molti escursionisti.
Il Roannay attraversa i villaggi di Ruy e Moulin du Ruy prima di completare il suo viaggio di 11 km sulla riva destra dell'Amel fino a Roanne-Coo tra la cascata di Coo e il villaggio di La Gleize.
La riserva naturale nazionale "Les prairieshumides du Roannay" si trova poco prima dell'estuario.
Molti mulini ad acqua fiancheggiano il Roannay.
A ovest di Francorchamps è possibile seguire il Roannay su diversi ponti di legno fino a Ruy. Non c'è strada da Ruy a Moulin du Ruy, ma c'è una strada asfaltata a una certa distanza. Da Moulin du Ruy c'è una bellissima valle con una strada vicino a Roannay.
