Martin Lutero (* 10 novembre 1483 a Eisleben, Contea di Mansfeld; † 18 febbraio 1546 ivi) è stato l'ideatore teologico della Riforma. In qualità di professore di teologia appartenente all'Ordine degli Agostiniani, scoprì la promessa di grazia di Dio nel Nuovo Testamento e da allora si orientò esclusivamente verso Gesù Cristo come il "Verbo di Dio fatto carne". Con questo criterio voleva superare le deviazioni della storia del cristianesimo e della chiesa del suo tempo.
