Il villaggio di Protzen è una frazione del comune di Fehrbellin con circa 500 abitanti. Si trova al margine nord del Rhinluches, a sud dell'Altopiano di Ruppin. A est del villaggio passa l'A 24. Questa è raggiungibile tramite l'uscita Neuruppin-Süd, che dista circa quattro chilometri.
Protzen è un villaggio stradale di origine slava e fu menzionato per la prima volta come villaggio parrocchiale nel 1324. Il nome del paese dovrebbe derivare dal slavo, da "luogo dove cresce il miglio". Il villaggio con la sua chiesa in pietra da campo si trova lungo il cammino dei pellegrini da Berlino a Wilsnack. Intorno al 1490, Protzen faceva parte della signoria di Ruppin, che era essenzialmente un'entità imperiale diretta sotto il dominio dei Conti di Lindow-Ruppin.
