Villers-Cotterêts è un comune francese di 10.601 abitanti situato nel dipartimento dell'Aisne della regione dell'Alta Francia.È il luogo di nascita del celebre scrittore Alexandre Dumas, padre.Nel 1539 il re Francesco I vi firmò un'ordinanza che introdusse importanti riforme amministrative nello Stato francese quali l'imposizione del francese come lingua ufficiale e la generalizzazione di uno Stato Civile in Francia.
