L'abitato è localmente indicato anche come Old Martlesham per distinguerlo da Martlesham Heath, piccolo centro ad est di Ipswich, sorto negli anni settanta sull'area occupata dalla scomparsa RAF Martlesham Heath, base aerea della Royal Air Force.
