L'ospedale, progettato da William Deane Butler in stile elisabettiano, apre come Sligo Asylum nel 1855. Divenne Sligo Mental Hospital negli anni '20 e successivamente St. Columba's Hospital negli anni '50. Dopo l'introduzione della deistituzionalizzazione alla fine degli anni '80, l'ospedale entrò in un periodo di declino e chiuse nel 1992. Dopo essere stato convertito per uso alberghiero, riaprì come Clarion Hotel nel 2005 e successivamente fu re-brandizzato come Clayton Hotel. Nel 2021, 167 camere sono disponibili per l'uso.
