Il Regno d'Italia fu lo Stato italiano nato il 17 marzo 1861 dopo la guerra risorgimentale combattuta dal Regno di Sardegna per conseguire l'unificazione nazionale italiana.
Il completamento del territorio nazionale avvenne al termine della prima guerra mondiale, considerata come la quarta guerra d'indipendenza italiana, il 4 novembre 1918 in base all'armistizio firmato a Villa Giusti, nei pressi di Padova. Con il successivo trattato di Saint-Germain-en-Laye, nel 1919, l'Italia completò l'unità nazionale con l'annessione di Trento, Trieste, l'Istria e parte della Dalmazia.
