Questo villaggio nella Neder-Betuwe appartenne dal 1811 al 1817 al precedente comune di Beusichem, dal 1818 al 1998 al precedente comune di Maurik e dal 1999 al comune di Buren. Lo stesso nome del luogo si trova anche nel Brabante Settentrionale e nell'Olanda Meridionale.
Nel 1915 e 1916 sono stati trovati nelle zone di piena, nell'Essenbosch, segni di un insediamento del II secolo dopo Cristo, forse il castello romano Levefanum.
