Normalmente ed erroneamente conosciuto come parte di Estoril, data la quantità di turisti, in realtà è Estoril che appartiene al comune di Cascais. Da Lisbona è semplice arrivare alla stazione di Cascais attraverso la linea ferroviaria costiera, una delle prime linee elettriche europee.Negli anni l'attività turistica ha rimpiazzato l'industria peschiera. Esiste tuttavia ancora una piccola flotta di pescherecci e un ricco mercato del pesce, noto come la Lota de Cascais.Si distingue per esser oggi meta di un turismo d'élite.
