Kiruna è un comune svedese di 22 938 abitanti, situato nella contea di Norrbotten. Il suo capoluogo è la cittadina omonima. Con i suoi 20714,66 km² Kiruna è la più estesa municipalità d'Europa, ovvero il più grande comune d'Europa.
Nel territorio della municipalità sorge il Kebnekaise, la cima più alta della Svezia con 2 117 metri sopra il livello del mare. Nel comune di Kiruna si contano più di 6 000 laghi, il maggiore dei quali è il Torneträsk.
Fra i fiumi che scorrono nel territorio, i maggiori sono Kalix, Torne, Lainio, Rautas e Vittangi, così come il Könkämä e il Muonio che segnano il confine con la Finlandia. Per preservare la natura quasi incontaminata della zona, agli inizi del 1909 venne costituito il Parco nazionale di Abisko, al confine con la Norvegia.
