De Kempen is een streek was met arme zandgronden met tal van bos- en heidelandschappen. Je vindt er weinig oude of grote steden met de uitzondering van Turnhout dat ook wel de "hoofdstad van de Kempen" genoemd wordt. De streek was dunbevolkt, en gekozen door monniken die stilte zochten. Niet toevallig dus dat je hier de heerlijke abdijbieren van Zundert, Postel, Westmalle en Tongerlo aantreft.
