Koekelberg zou gelinkt zijn aan de Keltische mythologische Succelos (Cuchul-). Succelos was gekend als "deze die de weg wijst". Het concept en de symbolen van Succelos werden overgenomen door de Heilige Sint-Rochus.
Sucellos en Sint-Rochus hebben afbeeldingen als reiziger en boodschapper met kapmantel, hond, brood, staf en twee kraaien die vlug het nieuws brengen.
Succelos was de zoon van de god Lug.
