Meetkerke is een deelgemeente van Zuienkerke, maar laat zich niet onbetuigd. Dankzij een miraculeus Onze-Lieve-Vrouwbeeldje kreeg de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk zelfs heuse bedevaartallures. De legende vertelt immers dat Blankenbergse vissers die het beeldje in hun netten hadden ontdekt en het kleinood vol goede bedoelingen naar een kerk brachten, het de volgende ochtend opnieuw op het strand vonden. Na drie kerken en evenveel pogingen besloten de vrome vissers om het beeld op de rug van een ezel te binden. De ezel liep linea recta naar de kerk van Meetkerke.
