In dit deel van het bos staan oude beuken van wel 150 jaar oud. Sommige hebben op borsthoogte een omtrek van 4 meter. Dit oude bos is een geknipt biotoop voor de boomklever, zwarte specht en buizerd. Ook de voorjaarsflora als wilde hyacint, een echte indicatorsoort voor oud bos, bosanemoon en kleine maagdenpalm zijn er elk jaar uitbundig van de partij.
