Fietsen door de Heide voert je dwars door het Nationaal Park Hoge Kempen. In dit park wisselen uitgestrekte dennenbossen en eindeloze heidelandschappen elkaar af. Bij Fietsen door de Heide krijg je deze natuur op een dienblaadje gepresenteerd door de nieuwe verbinding tussen de fietsknooppunten 550 en 551. Je fietst dwars over de Mechelse Heide dat met 700 hectare één van de grootste heidegebieden in Vlaanderen is. Topbeleving op dit traject is ongetwijfeld de bijna 300 meter lange houten fietsbrug, een baken in het landschap. Bovenop de fietsbrug krijg je een breed zicht op de natuurlijke omgeving.
