Wist je dat Willem I van Nederland plannen had om een deel van Duitsland te annexeren aan de Nederlanden! De grens zou dan gaan tot aan de linkeroever van de RIjn hier in Koblenz. Dat idee stak een eeuw later nog eens de kop op, net na WO I. België wou gecompenseerd worden voor de verliezen en vernielingen tijdends de Eerste Wereldoorlog. Ze zaten wel niet mee aan tafel van de overwinnaars in de Salle d'horloge in de Quai d'Orsay in Parijs op 18 januari 1919, maar mochten wel hun eisen mee op tafel leggen. Eén van die eisen was een uitbreiding tot aan de Rijn hier in Duitsland. Dat zou Koblenz een Belgische stad maken. Maar dat "feest" ging niet door. Het bleek iets te ingrijpend en te grandioos te zijn. België zou twee keer zo groot worden en zou een gigantische Duitse bevolkingsgroep krijgen, naast de Nederlandstalige en de Franstalige.
