Salzgitter is een kreisfreie Stadt in de Duitse deelstaat Nedersaksen. De stad telt 104.948 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 223,91 km². De huidige burgemeester is Frank Klingebiel .
Te Salzgitter is onder andere Alstom LHB gevestigd, een fabrikant van rollend materieel die de eerste serie metrostellen van de Amsterdamse metro heeft geleverd en twee series trams.
