Nienwalde ligt in de Landkreis Lüchow-Dannenberg aan de grens met Saksen-Anhalt. Het dorp is via de K 34 verbonden met de hoofdplaats Gartow, verder leidt een verbindingsweg naar Bömenzien.
De buurdorpen zijn Elbholz in het noorden, Sonnenhof, Holtorf, Schnackenburg, Kapern, Gummern en Stresow in het noordoosten, Klein Wanzer in het oosten, Wanzer, Aulosen, Bömenzien, Drösede en Gollensdorf in het zuidoosten, Wirl en Prezelle Siedlung in het zuidwesten, Rucksmoor in het westen, en Falkenmoor, Buchhorst, Gartow en Quarnstedt in het noordwesten.
