Orthez is een gemeente in het Franse departement Pyrénées-Atlantiques . De plaats maakt deel uit van het arrondissement Pau. Het ligt aan de rivier de Gave.De geschiedenis van Orthez is ongeveer in de 11e eeuw begonnen, in de Romaanse tijd. Orthez is ontstaan door het samengaan van de twee gemeenten aan weerszijden van de Gave. Tussen 1194 en 1464 was Orthez de hoofdstad van de burggraven van Béarn. Van het kasteel van de burggraaf is de tour Moncade een overblijfsel. De versterkte Pont-Vieux dateert uit de 13e en 14e eeuw. De stad werd in 1569 ingenomen door de protestanten en geplunderd.
