De Calvarieberg ligt op de hoogten van Château-Chinon en biedt een buitengewoon panorama op de Morvan.
Het is gelegen op de top van de stad, op de plaats van het oude kasteel dat tijdens de gevechten tussen de hertog van Bourgondië, Karel de Stoute en de troepen van Lodewijk XI werd verwoest. De stenen van het oude kasteel werden gebruikt om de Porte Notre Dame in het stadscentrum te bouwen. Daar staan nu drie missiekruisen. De originele oriëntatietafel in Volvic-steen werd in 1914 geschonken door de Touring Club de France. De huidige tafels, waaronder de 360°-tafel, werden in 2014 in gebruik genomen.
