Oliver Sacks ontving zijn medische graad aan dit Queen's College in 1960. Zijn levensverhaal werd beroemd met de film "Awakenings" met Robert Deniro en Robin Williams in de hoofdrol. In 1966 begon hij als neuroloog te dienen in de chronische zorgfaciliteit van Beth Abraham Hospital in de Bronx (USA). Terwijl hij daar werkte, werkte hij met een groep overlevenden van de slaapziekte lethargica uit de jaren twintig van de vorige eeuw, die zich al decennialang niet meer zelfstandig konden bewegen. Zijn behandeling van die patiënten werd de basis van zijn boek Awakenings.
