Hoewel het niet de langste National Trail van Groot-Brittannië is, is de Pennine Way volgens de Ramblers' Association "een van de bekendste en zwaarste van Groot-Brittannië". De Pennine Way is een nationale route in Engeland, met een klein gedeelte in Schotland. De route loopt 429 km van Edale, in het noordelijke Derbyshire Peak District, noordwaarts door de Yorkshire Dales en het Northumberland National Park en eindigt bij Kirk Yetholm, net binnen de Schotse grens. Het pad loopt langs de Pennine-heuvels, ook wel omschreven als de "ruggengraat van Engeland".
