Rhijnvis Feith, de beroemde Nederlands dichter uit de 18de eeuw, werd geboren op 7 februari 1753 te Zwolle in een welgestelde familie.
Rhijnvis' grootvader, burgemeester van Zwolle, verloor al zijn kinderen vlak na hun geboorte, op één na: Pieter. Uit diens huwelijk volgde slechts Rhijnvis, die daarom met bijna overdreven zorg werd omringd in zijn jeugdjaren. De hypergevoeligheid die de dichter later aan de dag zal leggen, kan wellicht worden toegeschreven aan de immer beschermende omgeving waarin hij opgroeide.
