Elspeet ligt zo'n tien kilometer ten zuiden van Nunspeet, waartoe het ook behoort. Gezamelijk maken ze deel uit van de Nederlandse provincie Gelderland. Het toeristische dorp met zijn meer dan 4000 inwoners ligt in een landbouwenclave, omringd door bos en heidevelden.
Het dorp staat nog altijd bekend als zeer kerkelijk. Bij de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen van 7 maart 2006 kreeg de SGP 63,2% van de stemmen. Ruim 90% van de stemmen is op een christelijke partij uitgebracht.
