Visvliet is een komdorp in de gemeente Westerkwartier in de Nederlandse provincie Groningen. Het dorp telt 280 inwoners .Visvliet ligt aan de Groningse kant van de rivier de Lauwers. Aan de oostzijde van het dorp loopt het Visvlieterdiep . De Lauwers staat sinds de Slag aan de Boorne in 734 bekend als een grensrivier; eerst tussen de Frankische en Friese gebieden, om vervolgens in de middeleeuwen de grens tussen Westerlauwers en Oosterlauwers Friesland te vormen. Later werd de rivier de grens tussen Groningen en Friesland. De heerlijke rechten waren van 1578 tot 1637 in handen van de Staten van Friesland.
