Oorspronkelijk was het huis een boerderij genaamd Heidenoord, gebouwd in 1832. Een Amsterdamse bankier, Johannes Stoop, stichtte er in 1834 een school, die later een landbouwschool werd.
De naam de Beaufort werd aan het huis gekoppeld omdat de enige dochter van Stoop huwde met Arnoud Jan de Beaufort (erfgenaam van Landgoed Den Treek in Leusden). Zij breidden het pand uit met een kerk t.b.v. de inwoners van Austerlitz. Tot 1984 werden er kerkdiensten van de Ned. Herv. Kerk gehouden. Het wordt nu gebruikt als muziekpodium en theatercafé en heet sinds 1989 'Het Beauforthuis'.
