Langs glooiende weilanden gaat het, waar in de bosranden hier en daar plukjes narcissen bloeien. De hommelkoninginnen zwermen op de deze eerste lentedag van bloem naar bloem, zoekend naar meer nectar.
Het pad gaat weer een heuvel op, van de Boterberg deze keer. De heuvels in dit grensgebied met Duitsland zijn ontstaan tijdens de voorlaatste ijstijd, het saalien, zo’n 160.000 jaar geleden. Twee gletsjertongen, van enkele honderden meters dik, stuwden vanuit Scandinavië de bevroren bodem omhoog. Toen het ijs smolt, bleven er grote heuvels achter, het smeltwater sleet de diepe dalen uit.
