Silezië is een historische regio die vandaag over drie landen verdeeld is: het grootste deel ligt in Polen, maar delen horen ook bij Tsjechië en Duitsland.
De regio heeft een extreem gelaagde geschiedenis: ze was achtereenvolgens onder andere Boheems, Habsburgs, Pruisisch en Duits, en pas na de Eerste en vooral de Tweede Wereldoorlog verschoof het zwaartepunt duidelijk naar Polen.
Voor liefhebbers van natuur én industrie is Silezië een boeiende combinatie: je vindt er zowel oude mijnsteden met staal- en kolenindustrie als berglandschappen als de Sudeten en de Silezische Beskiden, met mogelijkheden voor wandelen, mountainbiken en wintersport.
