Naar Rua Doutor Afonso Costa, Mértola, Alentejo

De tweede etappe begint met een stevige klim van zo'n 200 hoogtemeters uit het dal van de Rio Guadiana. Het blijft de hele dag op en neer gaan door een leeg landschap. Slechts hier en daar een kleine nederzetting, alleen in Giões is beperkte horeca. 
Het landschap oogt woest, slechts hier en daar wordt het land bewerkt. Er is dan ook maar weinig verkeer. Alleen de N122 (slechts enkele km's) is wat drukker. Aan het eind van de dag wacht Mértola, prachtig gelegen aan de Rio Guadiana en wat groter en drukker dan Alcoutim.
