Admiraal Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak (1880-1923) wordt beschouwd als de vader van de Koninklijke Thaise Marine. Hij was de 28e zoon van koning Rama V en toonde al vroeg belangstelling en talent voor nautische zaken. Hij bracht zes jaar door in het VK om te studeren aan de Koninklijke Marine Academie. Bij zijn terugkeer naar Siam bekleedde hij een aantal belangrijke posities in de Koninklijke Thaise marine. Hij staat bekend om het moderniseren van de marine en het creëren van een professioneel officierenkorps. In 1922 werd hij de Commandant van de Marine. Naast zijn marine studies staat de prins ook bekend als kruidenarts, bokser en kunstschilder. Hij wordt goed herinnerd in Thailand. De verjaardag van zijn overlijden, 19 mei, is de Koninklijke Thaise Marine Dag. Hij staat ook bekend als Admiraal Prins Abhakara Kiartivongse. [Bron: Waymarking.com]
