Segons molts residents de Malines, l'IJzerenleen és els Camps Elisis de Malines.
Afortunadament, hi ha menys cotxes per veure, però hi ha façanes imponents , precioses botigues i un dels ajuntaments més antics de Flandes . Aquí solia fluir un petit rierol entre Dyle i Koolvliet al llarg del qual hi havia un mercat de peix. L'IJzerenleen rep el seu nom de les baranes de ferro al costat del vlietje, que encara hi són. Tanmateix, el vliet ja estava cobert al segle XVI.
Les façanes dels segles XV, XVI i XVII no són originals sinó que van ser reconstruïdes després d'un concurs entre arquitectes després de la destrucció de la Primera Guerra Mundial.
