Det ligger i nordvest for Gran Canaria-øen og er omgivet af Atlanterhavet mod vest, Gáldar mod nordøst og Artenara mod syd. Agaetes område er 45,50 km2 med en befolkning på 5.796.
Agaete havn, Puerto de las Nieves, var en gang det foretrukne sted at få udsigt til El Dedo de Dios, et naturmonument på kystlinjen, før sidstnævnte blev ødelagt under den tropiske storm Delta i november 2005. Havnen er et almindeligt slutpunkt for heldagsture fra mere turistede områder af øen.
