Watlington er en marked by og sogn ca. 11 km syd for Thame i Oxfordshire, nær grænsen mod øst i grevskabet og mindre end 3 km fra grænsen til Buckinghamshire. Sognet inkluderer landsbyerne Christmas Common, Greenfield og Howe Hill, som alle ligger i Chiltern Hills. Folketællingen i 2011 registrerede sognets befolkning som 2.727.
Watlington-området er sandsynligvis blevet bosat tidligt, opmuntret af nærheden til Icknield Way. Toponymet betyder "bopæl for Waecels folk" og indikerer besættelse fra omkring det 6. århundrede. Et dokument fra det 9. århundrede af Æthelred af Mercia registrerer otte 'manses' eller større boliger i Watlington. Domesday Book fra 1086 nævnte byen som Watelintone eller Watelintune og identificerede området som et landbrugssamfund værdiansat til £610. Middelalderlige dokumenter angiver, at den moderne gadeplan eksisterede i det 14. århundrede, da Cochynes-lane og Brook Street er opført.
