Im Jahre 1933 erschien hier die Jungfrau Maria 8 Mal der kleinen Mariette Beco und stellte sich als "Jungfrau dser Armen" vor. Seitdem pilgern jedes Jahr 600.000 Menschen zu der Quelle die Maria für "alle Kranken, aller Nationen" vorgesehen hat. Das Heiligtum von Banneux umfasst ausserdem mehrere Kapellen, die von bewaldeten Landschaften umgeben sind, ein Hospiz und eine Kirche. Die Kapelle der Erscheinungen wurde im Jahre 1933 erbaut und eingeweiht.
