Vom Garten aus hatte Claus einen augenfreundlichen Blick über die Wiesen und Felder von Ooidonk, die sich zwischen der Leie und dem Schloss erstreckten. Dass auch der Park des imposanten Schlosses ihn inspirierte, ist nicht verwunderlich. Der Ziervorsee mit seiner dreibogigen Brücke wurde erst Mitte des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts angelegt.
