ist eine politische Gemeinde im Kreis und Bezirk Bellinzona sowie Hauptort des italienischsprachigen Kantons Tessin in der Schweiz. Mit seinen rund 43'000 Einwohnern ist Bellinzona nach Lugano die zweitgrösste Stadt des Kantons. Die Einwohner werden Bellenzer genannt, italienisch Bellinzonesi.
Bellinzona liegt in der Talebene östlich des Flusses Tessin am Fuss des Gotthardmassivs nahe der Grenze von Sopraceneri und Sottoceneri . Aus der mit der Magadinoebene direkt verbundenen Ebene ragen Felsen heraus, die in der letzten Eiszeit geformt wurden; sie bestehen überwiegend aus Gneis. Der Burgfelsen war der wesentliche Anlass für die Errichtung einer Festung an dieser Stelle.
