Der Ruchi gehört zur Hausstockgruppe, einer Untergruppe der Glarner Alpen. Er liegt zwischen dem Hausstock und dem Kistenpass . Über den Gipfel verläuft die Kantonsgrenze zwischen Glarus und Graubünden, sowie die Gemeindegrenze zwischen Glarus Süd und Waltensburg/Vuorz.
