Fürstenwalde/Spree ist die bevölkerungsreichste Stadt im Landkreis Oder-Spree im Osten des Landes Brandenburg. Sie ist ein wichtiges Verwaltungs- und Wirtschaftszentrum.
Der Dom St. Marien ist das stadtbildprägende Wahrzeichen im Zentrum. Zu seiner Ehrung führt die Stadt seit Ende 2013 den offiziellen Namenszusatz Domstadt. Eine andere traditionsreiche Bezeichnung ist Grüne Stadt an der Spree, die auf den Waldreichtum ringsum und den hohen Baumbestand innerhalb der Stadt verweist.
